AWARDS

The Forry Award this year was awarded to a celebrity who has literally done it all in the fannish community.   He is, in fact, the example all recipients of this award strive to live up to.   Forrest J; Ackerman!

Mike Glyer, a member of the selection committee, announced the winner of the Rotsler Award, given for Fan Art and Cartoons.   Congratulations to Kurt Erichson.   Mike Glyer, a member of the selection committee, offered his remarks.

Finally, the Chairman of the LASFS Board of Directors presented a brand-new award:

Pillar of the LASFS

Remarks from the Chairman:
The Pillar of the LASFS is a brand new award, created just this year.   The concept of this award was first proposed by Bruce Pelz on April 18, 2002, and voted into effect June 6 of the same year.   Bruce's concept was that this award would be bestowed upon people who met two criteria.
First, they could not be among the living; what we at the LASFS refer to as "metabolically challenged".   Second, they had to have a lump sum amount donated in their name, either as a bequest or through the efforts of their friends, to the club.   (The amount is currently $4000).
On May 9, 2002, Bruce died, suddenly and very unexpectedly.
Such is our regard for the man that we undertook a massive fundraising effort to make Bruce a pillar.   One person even paid a large sum to be eaten by a carnivorous worm in an upcoming book.
The sum has been raised, and it is thus my honor to recognize the first official Pillar of the LASFS, Bruce Pelz.

HANUKKAH

Tonight being the second night, no sermon was given.   However, there was singing & blessings that occurred.   There were latkes.   We had a much bigger turnout, with a good 17 more people than last night showing up for the lighting of the candles.

OVERHEARD

"Put the utter hand here."   "You were talking about cows, I hope?"

"Okay, Christian. We are having a pair of buttons made saying that we are cousins!"   "Why?"   "Because I have been accused of being your mother, your sister, and your daughter!   We are cousins!"

"The Chairman wants music......NOW!!!"

"I'm waiting for the Chair to come, but I need an ice bucket!"

ART CONTEST

Therri Moore wins a free membership for Loscon 30, for her lovely bookmark design.   Confirmation will be sent to her address.   Congratulations!

SO WHAT'S THE
CONNECTION?

Q:     What's the connection between Nixon, the CIA, and our convention?

A:     The Nixon Presidential Library ordered a print job from the company where Tony Benoun, the head of convention registration, works.   The print job was for a dinner in honor of the current head of the CIA.   The leftover paper from this job was then acquired by registration and used to make our convention badges.   Your badge will self destruct five seconds after the convention ends.

MASQUERADE

Cal Cotton won the Costume College membership for Best in Show.   This was for the Drow Warrior.   Congrats!
