ISSUE # 3 DEADLINE

Have news items in to the editor by midnight on Friday, November 29.

TIP THE MAID

The committee to promote good relations between the convention and the hotel staff recommends that you leave a dollar on your pillow as a tip for the maid in the morning.
If you keep house like I do, leave two or three dollars.

NICHELLE NICHOLS

Actress/Singer/Author Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from Star Trek) will be here Saturday, to promote her new book, Saturna's Quest.   Rumor has it that she may even provide an autograph or two, if asked very nicely.

BLOOD DRIVE

As this issue was going to press, the blood drive was still in progress.   The closing time given in the last issue was wrong.   Final totals are not available yet, but you still have time to get to Academy 6 and bleed - as 23 others have, as of 3:30.

VOLUNTEER RAFFLE!

The Volunteer Department has three items to raffle off.   Tickets are free, but you must rack up at least four hours of volunteer time at the convention itself (excludes truck loading and unloading) to qualify for a ticket.
Any questions about the items being raffled, see Katt at the volunteer booth.

MAGIC TOURNAMENT

A Magic the Gathering tournament will take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM.   Sign up with Mike Stern in the gaming room. Also:

WHO WAS THAT WOMAN?

Our mystery woman was seen once again, this time entering the Listening Lounge.   When a staff member followed her in, there was no one to be seen.   She is described as medium height, slender build, and wearing an impossibly gaudy head piece.

JANITORIAL NOTES

Your mother doesn't work at this con. Please clean up after yourself. Please make sure that any soda cans are placed in trash cans or recycle bins, and not left on the elevator floor.
And we request that no food or drink be brought into the listening lounge, especially tropical fruit which is easily crushed and tends to spoil quickly.

"Pour it in a glass and say, 'Cheers!'"

THE HEINLEIN SOCIETY

Fans of Robert Heinlein, set your chronometers for Saturday at 12:00 and 4:30, when the Heinlein Society sponsors two panels.   "Heinlein and the Year 2000" explores his 1950 predictions for the present day: how close was he?   Then "The Year Heinlein Hanged All the Lawyers" looks at his recurring interest in things legal: what did he think of lawyers, and why?
Meet Society representatives and find out what we do to promote Heinlein's life, works, and causes, such as our library program and scholarships for graduating high school seniors.   Founded in 2000, our Board of Directors includes Virginia Heinlein, Yoji Kondo, and Charles N. Brown.   We develop educational panels, and created the Heinlein Award for excellence in science fiction.   The next award will be presented at the Society's Heinlein Dinner at Torcon '03.
Learn about our plans for the 2007 centennial of Heinlein's birth - get involved at the outset of this eclectic celebration!   We want your ideas, time and money: drop by our table at the con or reach us via our web site at <www.heinleinsociety.org>
