The convention committee of Loscon 34 is busy planning a number of events, both traditional and new, to entertain you during the course of the convention weekend. The theme of the convention is "The Dig - Excavating the Worlds of Science Fiction". All the events of the convention will be strongly theme oriented. A few convention activities are due simply to this theme, like the Dig Box which will be situated in the outside Pavilion area.
During the daylight hours there will be a busy schedule of Panel Programming, with panels that are very theme oriented. The Eaton Collection is currently scheduling to offer a workshop about maintaining our fannish collections. A complete track of Children's Programming is also being planned. This year we are even planning an evening pajama party type event for the kids, more details to come later. In addition, several panels and evening events are being specifically planned with our young adult population in mind. Like the last few years, a room has been set aside as a teen only Teen Lounge complete with a Playstation area. Eventually you will see a list of the Autograph Sessions that will be scheduled. Bring your books to be signed (we ask that you be considerate of the authors and not bring your entire collection). A Riddle Quest is being organized to encourage you to explore all aspects of the convention as you attempt to uncover the answers and find the treasure at the end of the quest.
During the evening at Loscon 34 several events are being planned to entertain you with their themes revolving about "The Dig". Following the Ice Cream Excavation (Social) and before the evening dance on Friday night will be entertainments provided by our members in the tradition of campfire expedition entertainments of old, titled in this case "Raiders of the Lost Talent Show". &nsp; On Saturday evening will be the traditional Masquerade followed by a rock dance. We encourage any of you to consider presenting your latest costume or craziest performance upon our Masquerade stage. Due to the higher non-human attendance to the convention, a Loscon Pet Show will be part of the Masquerade this year. Visit our Masquerade Page for more about this event and sign up information.
Other standard Loscon events will be with us again, including the Anime Room, Gaming Room, and the Filking Room with a series of concerts. Docent Tours are being scheduled for both the Dealer's Room and Art Show to highlight the interesting aspects of these venues.
Our Charity Events, the Toy Drive and the Blood Drive, will also be continuing so plan now on contributing at the convention.
