TOY DRIVE

For those of you planning to attend Loscon this year I wanted to let you know that there will be a toydrive this year in spite of our move to a new venue.   As per usual we are using the classic Toys for Tots format, Namely New and unwrapped though the new will be waived if the item is clean and in mint condition.   Bring these toys to the Con-Suite (found on the 17th floor in the Presidential Suite) and hand it over to Loscon's resident "Santa's Little Helper." I'm sure I don't need to point out that your participation will bring happiness to kids who might not otherwise have much to look forward to and for that we all thank you.

ESCAPE FROM YOUR VEINS
LOSCON 31 BLOOD DRIVE

Friday, November 26th, 2004
Dallas Room, 12:30 to 6:30 PM

Did you know that 1/16th (about a pint - what a coincidence!) of your blood cells are rebellious malcontents that don't want to be in your body?   Well, here's the perfect opportunity to get rid of these troublemakers and help someone else who needs them at the ESCAPE FROM YOUR VEINS blood drive.   Once you relieve yourself of these discontented corpuscles, you can celebrate with juice and fresh homemade cookies.   We will also have a raffle for prizes, including $10.00 and $20.00 gift cards from Barnes and Noble and a free membership to next year's and Noble and a free membership to next year's Loscon.

ALLAN ROTHSTEIN MEMORIAL PILLAR AUCTION

Sunday, November 28th, 2004
Philadelphia Room, 2:30 PM

Allan Rothstein, a long time active member of the LASFS passed away earlier this year.   In his memory, an auction will be held at Loscon 31 to attempt to collect the funds to raise a "pillar memorial" to him at the LASFS clubhouse.   This is being done according to LASFS Bylaws =   "The LASFS shall recognize as pillars of the LASFS those deceased members in whose name a specific lump sum of money is donated.  ...  The name of each pillar of the lasfs shall be engraved on an individual plaque, with dates of birth, death, and becoming a membership of LASFS (or at least as much of these that are known), and up to 40 additional words of description or tribute.   Such placques shall be displayed on interior walls of a LASFS building, and shall be transferred to an interior wall of a building on any new site should LASFS move."   The funds thus raised go partially to the operational needs of the club but mainly to the future needs of the club, like a new clubhouse.

The items being auctioned are items from Allan Rothstein's personal collections.   So what does this mean for you?   The opportunity to put into your own collection some very unique items.   Visit this PAGE for a list and linked pictures of the specific items to be auctioned off.   P.S. Allan really liked Disney and Star Wars stuff.
