LOSCON 30 GUEST BIO

Beverly Jensen

Beverly Jensen has attended Loscon twice before, and enjoyed it so that she determined she would participate in the upcoming Loscon 30!   She enjoys reading SciFi, but prefers living a surreal life to imagining one.

Beverly was born in Canada, of North Indian and Pakistani parents and became a U.S. citizen upon marrying her handsome prince engineer, and has raised three children to adulthood-more or less.   Beverly taught at the Elementary School level for nearly 15 years.   But had a secret life on the side, piloting small planes, ballet, classical Indian dancing Bharata Natyam, belly dancing, a registered and certified Yoga teacher, a certified Pilates instructor.

Beverly is currently working as a fencing teacher for Orange Coast Fencing Academy, dancing for Indian holidays, teaching Yoga and Pilates and working as a physical therapy aide at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.   Beverly is pursuing her advanced degree in Physical Therapy with an emphasis on Gerontology.

Beverly began martial arts nearly 10 years ago with Sensei Yamazaki in classical Japanese fencing called Iaido, the art of drawing the sword, as well as Iaijutsu and Karate.   Sensei-san taught our new governor, Arnold S. his sword work for Conan, the Barbarian, as well as many other celebrities and many movies.

When Beverly gets tired of sharp pointy things, she practices with her bullwhips, and belongs to SASS, the Single Action Shooting Society.   SASS is a historical recreation group for the Old West, and hosts shooting competitions.   When dancing with a local Rocky Horror Picture Show, she reminds people "Don't dream it, be it!"

Beverly hopes everyone will join her for Yoga class (even beginners), and enjoy the Fencing Display.
