Robert B. Gounley

Bob Gounley is an aerospace engineer working for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.   A systems engineer on the Dawn project (a robotic mission to the main asteroid belt), he leads risk analysis and generally checks that the spacecraft's design and operations teams each do what the other expects.   Previous duties include Engineering Team Lead for the Mars Exploration Rover project, Flight Director for the Deep Space 1 spacecraft, and Deputy Engineering Team Chief for the Galileo mission to Jupiter.   For his work on Galileo, Bob received NASA's Exceptional Service and Exceptional Achievement Awards.

A life-long space enthusiast and activist, Bob served on the Board of Directors for the National Space Society and is past-president of OASIS, the organization's Los Angeles chapter.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master's Degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T.
