LOSCON 30 GUEST BIO

Marty Cantor

Marty Cantor retired from full-time work several years ago and is now busier than he ever was when he worked full-time.   He threatens to go back to full-time work just so he can get some free time for himself.   A member of the LASFS' Board of Directors, for the past 3 ½ years he has edited the LASFS' monthly newsletter, DE PROFUNDIS.   With a major interest in fanzine fandom, his fanzine HOLIER THAN THOU was nominated for the Best Fanzine Hugo in 1984, 1985, and 1986.   His current genzine (general interest fanzine) is NO AWARD, possibly reflecting (in part) the fact that his previous genzine did not win a Hugo.   He is currently the Official Collator of the weekly APA-L and the Little Tin God of the monthly LASFAPA, both of which are Amateur Press Associations (which is a fancy phrase for paper publications which are basically conversations in print).   He is also a contributor/member of many on-line e-lists, the on-line version of paper APAs.   A major non-fanzine interest is DUFF, the Down Under Fan Fund, one of the fan funds (with this one being 'twixt Australasia and North America), having won DUFF in 1985, with the "prize" being a trip to Australia . . . and administering the North American part of the fund for the next two years.   He has been a member of LASFS since 1975, the year he discovered fandom.
