Planet LosCon

GuitarFILKINGMusical Note

Have you heard strands of song in past convention halls, and wondered what it was?   Perhaps you've written a tune of your own, and are looking for just the right fannish lyrics to give to it.   If so, you'll probably enjoy the days and nights of 24 HR Filksinging at LosCon 29.

The Filk Lounge, located conveniently along the same hall as the Con Suite (See the Hotel Layout Page), will be open for filk writing, companionship and general chitchat throughout all three convention days.  Look for the Filk Lounge poster at its doorway.  Colleen Savitsky will be hosting and Heather Stern's filkbook collection will be at hand to paw through.

Friday night, after the Ice Cream Social, join us there for an evening of song and fun.  Fans of all ages are encouraged to come and enjoy, sing what suits the fannish soul, and encourage our finer creative talents.

Saturday midday in the Filk Lounge we will have a general chat topic of copyright issues in the music world, and how the DMCA and its kindred are affecting us.

Saturday evening, in one of the larger rooms attached to the hotel lobby, we'll have our concerts.  If you are inclined to join the concerts please advise Heather Stern before 3 pm Saturday so she can properly list and introduce you.  Steve Savitsky (Northern California) and Blake Hodgetts (Oregon) will be performing, and open filking will be here during empty concert slots.

Saturday night after the coffee shop closes the Dawn Patrol will sing songs of space and other stirring fantasies until the daylight returns... or at least until the coffee shop reopens, to go have our breakfast there.

Sunday midday in the Filk Lounge we will have a workshop on crafting new songs.  Whether it's your first trip to Loscon, or your muse is well known but just a little shy to come out of its shell, this should be fun and maybe a few fresh songs will be created there.

As the convention rolls to a close, if you're not involved in helping it wrap up or having to run off to catch your flights and rides home, join us for a Dead Cat Filksing.  Dead Dogging will be across the way in the Con Suite.
