The Heart of Loscon

A great deal of speculative fiction deals with our future -- will existence for humanity be better than it is today? But it's not enough to just engage in wishful thinking. Come help us make life better, today.

Benefit Auctions

We will be holding benefit auctions on both Saturday and Sunday at the con. If you have SF memorabilia, rare books, or other items to be donated to the auctions, please send an email to Richard Foss at programming@loscon.org.

David Gerrold's auction (currently scheduled for Saturday at 2:30pm) will go to benefit the SFWA Emergency Medical Fund. Included will be a whole bunch of Poul Anderson memorabilia, donated by Karen Anderson.

Thank you for your generosity!

Biology 101: Blood Drive

Draining students one pint at a time!

DESCRIPTION: This is a pass/fail course. Give blood, you pass. Don't give, you fail. (Sorry, there will be no auditing this class or passing out.) The class will be followed by a lab session (Cantina) for juice studies, homemade cookie examination, gummy frog dissection and running chocolate lab mice through graham cracker mazes.

Successful students will be entered in a raffle for prizes, including a $10.00 and $20.00 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble Bookstore, a free membership to next year's Loscon, tickets to the Griffith Observatory Planetarium Show, and a signed copy of K.C. Cole's book, "The Hole in the Universe: How Scientists Peered Over the Edge of Emptiness and Found Everything" (Donated by SCIFI, Inc. in memory of Gary Louie).

Provided class supplies will include balloons and a free button from the Earthdaughter Arts dealer's table.

Depending upon availability, there may be a demonstration by the Belly Jam Blood Drive Belly Dancers.

PREREQUISITES:
You must be at least 18 years old, have not given blood since September 27, 2001 and weigh at least 100 pounds. It also helps if you eat something light an hour or two before you attend.

COST: One unit (of Blood).

DATE: Friday afternoon.
