Treasurer: (Elayne Pelz):  Michelle, reporting for Elayne (who is very ill), said we have some money but do not spend it.

30 Second Reports:

Chairman (Karl Lembke): No report.

Vice Chairman (Christian McGuire): The David Keller memorial had at most about 25 people. It was a low key event. Lee Gold contributed to this report.

Secretary (Marty Cantor): Some people who previously attended Friday Night Dice have been attending LASFS on Friday nights and some of them have joined the society. I hope that more of them will come by and join. I also hope that those who join LASFS find things other than board gaming they will enjoy doing here.

Publications (Marty Cantor): No Report.

Comptroller (Gavin Claypool): The proposed changes to the by-laws were passed at the Thursday meeting passed overwhelmingly after nit-picking at the previous meeting was taken into account. Lee Gold queried about changes.

Quartermaster/Supplies (Mike Thorsen):  Soda units sold: 29,566 units to date, 219 units this period. Soda money: $24,348.00 date, $219.00 for this period. // We made the usual purchases of paper towels and things, with paper purchased twice due to people taking things home - and people are making the powdered supplies from the kitchen disappear at a tremendous rate. // There was a discussion of the problem of Free Drinks competing with our vending machine and our recycling programme is a little low.

Library (Warren “Whisky” Johnson):  (Acting temporary librarian Gavin): Due to a lack of spirited conversation, traffic in the library has been a bit thin; however, books have been checked out and books have been checked in and space created by the removal of ancient videos has been filled with more books.

Archives (Marcia Minsky): For the past few weeks, Marcia has been in communication with Julia Ree. Julia Ree (at Eaton) works with archives has offered help with our archives.

Physical Plant (Elayne Pelz): Milt reported about the geranium plant in front of the building is threatening to take over the sidewalk. // Rob reported about a problem for people wanting to leave the patio area if the door to the interior is locked. This was discussed. // There is a ballast problem with the front light fixture in Freehafer Hall. // We have a problem with our pressure regulator. // Dewey Pest Control is not showing up for the monthly inspection our contract stipulates. The Secretary took a copy of the latest bill and said he would contact Dewey Pest Control to see why they are not fulfilling their contract with us.

AV Equipment (Rob Powell): Rob heard no issues but there was a report of some discs not coming out of the blu-ray machine without the cover being removed.

Events (Milt Stevens): Milt reported about Westercon problems. // We discussed a possible 80th Anniversary celebration for the club with Milt saying that this is a worn-out idea for the moment like we have done these Anniversary things too often. Michelle mentioned the possibly of doing it at Clifton’s Cafeteria. // Parking: the still-posted Thursday no parking signs were just for the previous Thursday. Milt gave a report about the City cleaning up the trash being left by the homeless who live on the sidewalks in our area. Currently the City clean-up of the area makes the sidewalks and streets in our area looks nicer than it had recently been looking.  // Christian McGuire for LOSCON 41: there are continued and minor problems with hotel: there will be a meeting of the concom to handle the problems which are not insurmountable. // Marcia gave a report about LOSCON 41: 5 or 10 memberships ahead of LOSCON 40 at time. LOSCON 42 is pleased to announce that our Writer GoH is Jim C. Hines. // LA4000: attendance was rather low; but, with low expenses we made a little money. The Board requested a written report from CLJII.

Fund-raising and Recruitment (Michelle Pincus): The word is getting out about the Family Science Day at the LASFS. The Planetary Society has confirmed attendance.

(Significant Others)

Marketing Committee (Michelle Pincus):  Michelle is working with the Pasadena Library about their 120th Anniversary.

Club President (Eylat Poliner via Matthew B. Tepper): The President is in Israel but Matthew Tepper made an announcement about the overwhelming passing of the by-laws amendment.

WEB MASTER (Barry Gold): Most recent activity at the web site is about Westercon. And Go Daddy is waiting for Elayne to contact them. // Changes of things at the clubhouse are being put up in a timely manner.

There was a discussion about Harassment policies. Karl mentioned that when we get the proposed policy more finished that we run it past a lawyer.

Gavin recommended that we look more closely at officer duties.

Gavin also recommended that we get a club tour/meet with the Eaton people.

Tom Safer won a bag of potato chips at Ralphs and contributed it to Second Sunday.

Lee Gold appreciated the lamp at the book sale shelf area so that the titles could be read.

The next meeting of the Board will be on July 13, 2014.

Getting a written report about LA4000 from CLJII.

Adjournment: The Board adjourned its meeting at 12:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Marty Cantor, Board Secretary
