Board Members in attendance: Karl Lembke, Marty Cantor, Elayne Pelz, Rob Powell, Marcia Minsky, Michelle Pincus, Eylat Poliner, Christian McGuire, Mike Thorsen, Gavin Claypool, and Warren “Whisky” Johnson.

Members and Guests: Greg Bilan, Milt Stevens, June Moffatt, Lee Gold, Barry Gold, Tony Benoun, Sherri Benoun, Joe Zeff, Greg Barrett, David Okamura, Frank Waller, Bill Ellern.

Called to order: The meeting was called to order at 11:06 am.
Chairman (Karl Lembke): Good morning, everyone.

Minutes: The minutes of the Meeting of July 9, 2013, were accepted as presented.

New Members: There were 3 applications for membership submitted by: Scott Rosendall, Algis Posius, Robert Seotter. Having paid their $5, they were accepted.

Treasurer: There is no money and you cannot spend it.

30 Second Reports:

Chairman (Karl Lembke): No report.

Vice Chairman (Christian McGuire): LOSCON contract: FINAL version sent to hotel.

Secretary (Marty Cantor): No report.

Publications (Marty Cantor): I have been too busy to start the Patron Saints hagiography but it will be done.

Comptroller (Gavin Claypool): No report.

Quartermaster/Supplies (Mike Thorsen):  Soda units sold: 26,737 units to date, 299 units this period. Soda money: $21,482.00 to date, $301.00 for this period. // Materials to repair broken barbeque handle were purchased. 

Library (Warren “Whisky” Johnson): Yes, we have one. There are storage issues as we have more books than we have space.

Archives (Marcia Minsky): We have archives.

Physical Plant (Elayne Pelz): We have a new AC unit in the other part of the building – it has a 20-year warrantee. // New, extra-strong, toilet seats have been installed. // The next expense is the upcoming property tax payment.

AV Equipment (Rob Powell): Reported that equip. not working was the DVD/VCR combination unit was not functioning and a replacement unit was donated to the club but it was discovered that the old unit was functional so the new unit has been saved as a back-up unit. There are no other issues.

Events (Eylat Poliner): No report. No LOSCON 40 report. (There were about 30 people who showed up for the Harryhausen memorial.)

Fund-raising and Recruitment (Michelle Pincus):  Shawn Crosby is in contact with the Barnes and Noble at the Grove – we may be having a fund-raising event there. // Marcia: instigated Good Search some time ago. I just got an e-mail posting about Good Swipe reported. Just register your name and credit card: every time you go to one of these stores and purchase something with this credit card, between 0.6% to 4 or 5% of each purchase the club gets this money.

(Significant Others)

Marketing Committee (Michelle Pincus): We have new bookmarks – nice ones. Michelle gave “official” thanks to Michael Bloom for his hard work and Elayne for her assistance on this. Special thanks to Sarah Clemens for donating the artwork and Joyce Sperling for asking Sarah to do so. // The Burbank Dragon writers (a tribute to Anne McCaffrey) event was successful. 

Club President (Eylat Poliner):  25 people turned out for the feedback session at a Thursday meeting. Karl Lembke took notes of the session and some meeting changes will be made. We had a discussion about some of the changes and we got some good ideas from the members in the audience and Eylat mentioned some of them.

WEB MASTER (Barry Gold): There are new photos of club officers on the web site.

Agenda items:

Michelle reported on an e-mail she received from Ariane Lange/BuzzFeed.com.

Gavin asked about the alcohol rule. This was Rule 6, which was deleted by vote.

Elayne: LoneStarCon wants to use our Masquerade pipes and drapes. It was  moved, seconded and passed that Elayne negotiate a price.

Milt reported on the petition to the Mayor about parking on Aetna.

The next meeting of the Board will be on September 8, 2013.
