Events (Eylat Poliner): Report on Grilled Cheese Throwdown. Six participants: There were some issues with GC Throwdown. One of the contestants was not following the rules all the way and was grilling cheese directly on a griddle. Because of this there was a lot of smoke in the room. Eylat opened up the doors to let out the smoke. A fan used to help evacuate the smoke. Joe Zeff got sick. (Eylat apologized to Joe Zeff.) Agenda Items:
LOSCON 41 bids: Scott Beckstead presented a bid for LOSCON 41. (Chairman: Scott Beckstead. Hotel: Christian McGuire, Kim Marks Brown, and Jason Justice. Treasurer: Elayne Pelz. The bid had its requisite Weapons Policy in writing and met all of the requisite criteria for a LOSCON bid. This bid was moved, seconded, and passed and was sent to the next Thursday meeting of the Society for approval as it was qualified. There were no other bids.
Change to standing rules. There was a proposal to raise the dues and to do this the Standing Rules had to be changed. The changes were moved, seconded, and passed and will be brought up in April, 4 and 11 at Thursday meetings. Passed with one abstention. The lifetime dues will need a By-Laws change so are not being changed at this time. People who have started their lifetime dues by July 1 of this year will have to the end of the year to finish paying for this. Nothing we are proposing will change the status of those who have already paid their lifetime dues.
Here are the proposed changes:
That the LASFS amend Standing Rule #1 to raise the weekly dues to $4.00 from $3.00.
That the LASFS amend Standing Rule #2 to raise the monthly dues to $12.00  from $10.00.
That the LASFS amend Standing Rule #3 to raise the yearly dues to $135.00 from $110.00.
That we remove Standing Rules #s 4, 5, and 6 to remove all mentions of VAMF (Voluntary Active Membership Fee) and lifetime dues.
That these changes start on July 1, 2013.
Problem at cooking events – Joe Zeff: Joe presented his problems with the after-effects of the Grilled Cheese Throwdown and possible problems with similar events. There was a wide-ranging discussion based on what Joe brought up. The information he gave us was tabled until an actual motion was presented to us. This was moved, seconded and was passed with two abstentions.
Library expansion – Jeni Burr. Jeni wanted the Board’s opinion on expansion as the Library is getting crowded. A committee was formed to study the situation. Jeni Burr, Rob Powell, Warren Johnson, Christian McGuire, Michelle Pincus, Elayne Pelz, and Tim Trzepacz were appointed as a committee to study this.
