Freehafer Hall

Long before LASFS bought its own clubhouse, there was a Freehafer Hall every Thursday night, because the club voted that wherever it met would be named Freehafer Hall in honor of Paul Freehafer. Currently Freehafer Hall is the back building.

Building 4SJ

The Forrest J Ackerman building (also known as 4SJ) is the LASFS's front building and houses the Library and Computer Room. It is named in honor of Forrest J Ackerman .  It contains....

The LASFS Library

The LASFS has a large lending library of science fiction, fantasy and genre-related nonfiction books. Housed in the 4SJ building, it consists of more than 20,000 volumes. The library takes quite a lot of work to maintain and more than a few librarians. The librarian is Warren Johnson, assisted by Darnell Coleman and other able volunteers. Library work parties are regularly scheduled on the 4th Saturday of each month, and members are encouraged to participate in keeping our collection up-to-date and in good order.

Backpacks, big coats and the like are not permitted in the Library

One of the things that makes the LASFS unique is that every book and publication in its Library and every video in its Video Collection is available to any member to borrow, even those that are rare and unusual. The LASFS is firmly committed to this type of open access.
